Position Overview
Coordinator of Diversity and Inclusion Programming
Reports to: Assistant Head of School for Student Life
Kents Hill seeks a Coordinator of Diversity and Inclusion Programming (Coordinator) who is passionate about working with teenagers and will contribute to our mission of preparing students to be active participants in creating a just and equitable world. Reporting to the Assistant Head of School for Student Life, the Coordinator is a member of the Student Life Team whose mission is to create a fun, inclusive, and caring community where intercultural dialogue, cultural exploration, and belonging can occur. The Coordinator will develop programs, events, and services that facilitate wrap-around support and advocacy for the personal, social, academic, and cultural well-being of students from historically underrepresented and marginalized groups and international students. In addition to this work, the Coordinator will create programs and host activities that foster self-awareness, skills, and interest in engaging across differences and build an understanding of historical and structural forms of discrimination and systemic oppression.

ENUMERATED RESPONSIBILITIES
- Serves as a member of the Student Life Team, supporting all efforts to assist, engage, and educate students inside and outside of the classroom and serves as a resource to all students and their families, faculty, and staff.
- Takes the lead role in planning and implementing student programming that promotes intercultural understanding, cross-cultural dialogue, and celebration of the ethnic, gender, international, learning, racial, religious, and sexuality differences on campus.
- Advises student affinity groups to implement events that address the cultural, educational, and social needs of our diverse student population.
- Serves as the international student liaison, taking lead on additional advising and creating activities that address the social and cultural adjustment of our international students.
- Takes a lead role in planning and organizing cultural observances and inclusion programs such as Martin Luther King Day, Courageous Conversations, and heritage month celebrations.
- Takes part in our bias incident response.
- Serves as a member of the CARE Team.
- Serves as a member of various student-facing committees including the Student Experience Team (SET), Orientation Committee, student leadership training committee, and other committees as assigned by the Head or Assistant Head of School.
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
- Serves as an advisor for a small group of students.
- Coaches in either the Fall or Spring athletic season.
- Serves as a dorm head.
- Serves as a member of a weeknight and weekend duty team.
- Serves as a facilitator/instructor in our Principles, Ethics, and Action at Kents Hill (PEAK) program.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
- 1-3 years of experience in developing social programs and activities for middle and/or high school students.
- Experience working on issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion to effect meaningful change and promote student success.
- Ability to facilitate cross-cultural training and deliver effective group presentations.
- Experience and understanding of benefits and challenges faced by international students learning in the United States.
- Experience with equity-minded work and/or understanding of individuals of diverse identities such as race, ethnicity, socioeconomic level, and sexual orientation including those with different levels of academic preparation, varying physical and learning abilities.
- Possesses communication and interpersonal skills sufficient to work effectively with an increasingly diverse array of students and colleagues.
- Possesses a valid driver's license.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience in an independent school setting.
- Experience in K-12 education in an area such as student support or multicultural programs.
- Experience living abroad and fluency in a foreign language.
- Bachelor's degree or the equivalent combination of education and experience in Education, Ethnic or Cultural Studies, Counseling, Psychology, Sociology or other related fields.
