An ideal Upper School Engineering teacher is dynamic, has the ability to teach engineering, and is interested in developing strong problem-solving and communication competencies in students. The teacher will work with students in grades 10-12, with particular emphasis on a course sequence of Engineering I, Engineering II, and a senior-elective STEM Capstone. This is an interim position, for the spring of 2023.

Essential Functions
- Inspire, engage, and encourage students in the study of engineering and innovation
- Develop rigorous curriculum for the engineering program
- Become an active member of the McDonogh community by participating in school activities outside of the science department
- Overtly supporting and acting in accordance with the school's mission
- Exhibit professional standards of presentation, punctuality, professional courtesy, and discretion
- Responde to the needs of the School, including but not limited to, service learning, advisory programs, coaching, assigned supervision, and other areas as determined by the Upper School Head
Recommended Employment Qualifications
Master’s Degree strongly preferred, but not required.
Additional Experience
- Candidates should have prior experience successfully teaching engineering or experience working within the field of engineering or a combination of teaching and related experience
- Experience working in a student-centered learning environment, with practical experience with problem-based learning
- Must have working knowledge and skillset with the Microsoft Office and Google suites of products
- Relevant professional experience outside of the classroom (for example, previous or concurrent work in the field as an engineer, etc.) is desirable

- Demonstrated knowledge of or experience in computer science is preferred
- Must be able to comply with background checks, including fingerprints, as required by the agency and / or state regulations
- Must have a strong work ethic and ability to work independently
- Must possess personal qualifications as required, flexibility, patience, good personal hygiene and physical and mental health that do not interfere with responsibilities.
Working Conditions
Evening and weekend hours may be required from time to time. Lifting and carrying of equipment is typical, generally under 25 pounds, with occasional need to lift up to 50 pounds. Other working conditions include climbing stairs, walking around campus, sitting, standing, and significant computer use including extensive close use of a computer monitor.
