Summary Description:
Under the direct supervision of Bishop’s Director of Childcare Services, the infant toddler teacher is responsible for creating and implementing classroom programming in accordance with the policies and philosophy of Bishop’s Child Care Center, including curricular areas such as personal care, literature and language, art, sensory, science, nutrition and motor skills.
Pay Scale: $19 - $22/hour
Qualifications:
A minimum of 12 units in Child Development or Early Childhood Education is required. Bachelor’s degree in Child Development or Early Childhood Education preferred. At least two years of experience in a childcare setting is required. Equivalent combination of education and experience accepted. Successful completion of all state-required background clearances (DOJ, Live Scan), TB test, as well as Pediatric CPR and First Aid certification (within 30 days of hire) required.
An unequivocal passion for working with children and supporting them in all facets of their lives. Demonstrated commitment and competency in diversity, equity and inclusion. Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, faculty, staff, administrators and the community. Strong work ethic, time management, verbal, written language and interpersonal skills. Irrespective of one’s own religious orientation, ability to support the School’s mission and values as a school founded in the Episcopal tradition.

Essential Functions and Specific Duties:

Treat all children with dignity and respect.

Work with an assigned group of infants, toddlers or preschoolers applying best practices for infant/toddler, preschool care.

Facilitate and nurture the development of each child’s self-esteem, and trust.

Provide responsive care to children based on individual needs, temperaments, abilities and cultures.

Plan and implement lesson plan activities and experiences that are developmentally appropriate.
-
Prepare the infant/toddler, preschool learning environment for children to engage in active exploration and interaction with adult caregivers.
-
Maintain an environment that encompasses health plans for special diets, allergies, medication, and environmental health and safety standards.
-
Partner with parents to develop educational and family goals and maintain regular communication between home and school..
-
Plan and implement curriculum based on the needs of individual children with respect for their interests, abilities, individual style, and pace of learning.
-
Promote good habits in eating, resting, hygiene and health care.
-
Maintain records and reports on each child as assigned (attendance, health, progress, etc.) including daily documentation of individual needs, strengths, interests, service plans and meal counts for each child.

Use naptime or other quiet time for planning daily activities, maintaining written records, preparing or repairing materials.
-
Must be able to transition children into new activities or situations.

Implement the “redirection” positive discipline approach.
-
In cooperation with center staff, maintain a clean and orderly classroom environment.

Complete daily tasks including setup and clean-up of meals & snacks and maintain cleanliness of indoor and outdoor play areas.

Assist team members in keeping center supplies stocked including communication of needs.

Attend and participate in staff meetings as needed.

Share personal knowledge and curriculum with staff at the center (as appropriate).

PHYSICAL/ENVIRONMENTAL/MENTAL DEMANDS:
Located in a professional office environment. This position requires working at a keyboard and remaining stationary for long periods of time. Repetitive movement of arms, hands and fingers. The employee needs to occasionally move about the building, and position self to access file cabinets, office equipment, etc. This position frequently communicates with others and must be able to exchange accurate information. This position must have close visual acuity to perform tasks safely. The employee may frequently need to lift, carry or otherwise move and position objects weighing up to 10 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds.
The position requires the employee must remain professional and composed under pressure resulting from a multitude of duties and situations which must be handled simultaneously. The employee must maintain control in deadline situations, be quick to think and respond with appropriate judgment.
