Job Summary:
The School Nurse is responsible for all issues relating to the health and welfare of the students during their attendance at the school, and preparation for off-campus student experiences. The role serves as a liaison to parents on health and wellness issues and provides education/training on health issues to students, employees, and families; manages, reviews, and tracks student health records; and co-develops school policy in accordance with the school’s Risk Management Committee.
Salary: $62,000-$78,000/year

Job Responsibilities:
The School Nurse is responsible for all management, coordination, and compliance relating to the health and well-being of students and employees both at school and during in-school-sponsored activities. These include, but are not limited to:
- Assists the Assistant Head of School with the development and up-to-date documentation of school health policies and procedures
- Works to ensure implementation of these policies and procedures through employee and parent communications and training
- Assists the Assistant Head of School and Risk Management Team with health-related community communications
- Serves as a member of the Campus Health team
- Provides nursing care to ill or injured students and employees during the school day
- Administers COVID-19 and other testing as licensed and trained to do so
- Administers medication to students in accordance with a physician’s instructions
- Follows national, state, and local communicable disease information trends and statistics as well as maintaining and analyzing the school’s absenteeism and illness statistics, and makes recommendations for action to the Campus Health team.
- Manages and maintains the School Communicable Disease Manual
- Manages and maintains up-to-date school health records in accordance with the State of Oregon requirements.
- Manages and maintains complete and accurate medical records to assure compliance with state mandates including immunizations, physical examinations, medical conditions, medications, and any treatment provided.
- Initiates contact with, and acts as a liaison between, home, school, state and local community health agencies, and the private medical sector to enhance and inform the health and wellness of the school community
- Maintains electronic health records within the school’s selected health systems
- Supports off-campus experiential programs including but not restricted to:
- Conducting health screenings of student participants when relevant
- Reviewing and preparing medical forms to send out with Trip Leaders, including creating a compact student health reference sheet for each trip
- Educating trip staff about medications, pertinent medical conditions, and other student health information prior to each trip that leaves campus
- Collaborating with trip staff and families to create support plans for students with diabetes, seizures, anaphylaxis, asthma, and other conditions
- Maintains communication with administrators, teachers, staff, and school families to enhance cooperative action, which will meet the health and safety needs of the student.
- Manages onsite emergency services and procedures, including but not restricted to:
- Natural disaster preparedness
- Outdoor, Athletics, and Global Education medical kit preparation
- Classroom medical kit management
- Student medication management
- AED, Naloxone, EpiPen management
- Coordinates with facilities management to implement infectious disease mitigation, training, and protocols
- Provides health information and in-service programs on health topics, including blood borne pathogens, to employees
- Provides health-related classroom instruction in support of current and future programmatic needs
Schedule: This is a full-time position, 12 month, Monday through Friday. Work hours will be during the school day (7:30am-4pm) with a specific schedule to be determined by the supervisor.

- Bachelor’s degree or higher in nursing or relevant field
- Licensed in Oregon to practice as a Registered Nurse (RN), Pediatric Primary Care Nurse Practitioner (PPCNP), Certified Pediatric Nurse (CPN) or equivalent
- Current First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation certification
- Minimum of two years’ professional nursing experience, preferably in a school or pediatric setting
