Located along the expansive and picturesque Sippican Harbor on Buzzards Bay in Massachusetts, Tabor Academy serves as the premier coeducation, college preparatory boarding, and day school for students grades 9-12. The “School by the Sea” embodies its unique maritime heritage. It provides a wide breadth of academic offerings for students to explore their interests, understand their strengths, and develop their critical thinking and communication skills. In anticipation of Tabor’s 150th anniversary, the school is developing a new strategic vision that will chart a path forward into the next phase of the school’s history.
Tabor Academy is building a sophisticated advancement program and seeks a Director of Alumni and Parent Engagement to provide operational leadership over its constituent engagement efforts. The Director will be responsible for the strategic direction and execution of a robust regional, national, and international alumni and parent engagement program that reflects Tabor’s diverse constituent communities. They will work to provide comprehensive and innovative opportunities to strengthen affinity to Tabor while working to surpass dollar and participation goals for Tabor’s Annual Fund.
The ideal candidate is a creative and strategic thinker who can evaluate and improve programs based on the needs of the various constituencies while also inspiring and developing new opportunities for alumni and parents to meaningfully engage in the life of the institution. Responsibilities
• Develop an alumni and parent programs model to deliver programming, events, communications,
and services through school, class, affinity, and regional affiliations.
• Design and implement new programming and events to segmented audiences intended to increase
value and attendance; establish metrics to assess progress of each program and evaluate each
program quarterly.
• Oversee the recruitment, training, and stewardship of volunteers; create volunteer training materials
and communications.
• Work closely with the Parent’s Association and top parent volunteer leadership to develop
meaningful parent programs and support for the student experience at Tabor.
• Work with capital gift staff to develop campaign strategies that will facilitate deeper involvement and
support from each cohort.
• Partner with faculty members on specific initiatives designed to advance relationships between
alumni, parents, and the school, and between faculty and the Advancement Office.
• Work in close collaboration with the school’s Marketing and Communications Office, the Director of
Annual Giving, and Director of Donor Relations to develop comprehensive and consistent
communication plans, including developing website content, annual appeals, and newsletters.
• Partner with the Admissions Office to leverage alumni and parent engagement opportunities that
benefit the mutual goals of enrollment and development.
• Manage a portfolio of 40 alumni and parent leadership gift prospects.
• Manage the hiring, training, supervision, and evaluation of two Alumni and Parent Engagement
officers and facilitate professional development opportunities.
• Develop and manage the budget for Alumni and Parent programming.
• Present to Trustee Advancement Committee as necessary.
• Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university; Master’s degree is preferred.
• Minimum of five years of alumni and/or parent engagement and programming experience within a
secondary school, higher education, fundraising, or nonprofit setting.
• At least two years of strong leadership and management experience, as well as the ability to serve as a mentor within the Advancement Office.
• Computer proficiency with strong MS Office skills, specifically Outlook, PowerPoint, Word, Excel, and Raisers Edge. Ability to learn and become proficient with other proprietary and non-proprietary software programs as required.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to interact and work effectively with parents, faculty, and other employees of various levels with tact and professionalism in person, on the phone, and via email.
