Located along the expansive and picturesque Sippican Harbor on Buzzards Bay in Massachusetts, Tabor Academy serves as the premier coeducation, college preparatory boarding, and day school for students grades 9-12. The “School by the Sea” embodies its unique maritime heritage. It provides a wide breadth of academic offerings for students to explore their interests, understand their strengths, and develop their critical thinking and communication skills. In anticipation of Tabor’s 150th anniversary, the school is developing a new strategic vision that will chart a path forward into the next phase of the school’s history.
The school seeks a Director of Leadership and Legacy Giving at this pivotal moment to develop a comprehensive and high-level individual giving program. The Director will provide strategic leadership to build a major and planned giving program and develop annual operating plans for achieving fundraising goals. Relying on best-practice approaches, they will manage three frontline officers and institute a moves management system to track fundraising activity. This individual must also be adept at developing donor engagement strategies that align with Tabor’s priorities to yield increased levels of sustainable philanthropic support.
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced development professional to be the architect of a leadership and legacy giving program that reflects Tabor’s aspirations for the next 150 years. Ideal candidates will be highly strategic, creative, collaborative, and authentic. Responsibilities
• Provide leadership and create a Leadership and Legacy Gifts program to support high-level
individual giving activity.
• Create operating plans to ensure donor engagement and revenue targets are achieved for both
annual and long-term fundraising initiatives.
• In partnership with the Director of Advancement Services, develop and maintain a moves
management system based on major and planned giving goals.
• Manage an individual portfolio of 75 prospects and direct the portfolios of three Leadership and
Legacy Giving Officers creating comprehensive donor strategies to cultivate, solicit, and close major
and planned gifts at $100,000 and above.
• Work closely with Advancement and school leadership to develop fundraising strategies for top
prospects.
• Hire, manage, and evaluate three Leadership and Legacy Giving Officers providing leadership,
guidance, and mentorship to engage in major and planned giving fundraising activity.
• Oversee strategy and marketing program for the Elizabeth Taber Society.
• Collaborate with the Director of Donor Relations to steward all high-level individual giving donors.
• Support annual giving through solicitations and engagement.
• Be flexible and willing to travel as a representative of Tabor Academy.
Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university; Master’s degree is preferred.
• A minimum of five years of senior-level major and/or planned gift fundraising experience in a
secondary school, higher education, fundraising, or nonprofit setting.
• At least two years of strong leadership and management experience, as well as the ability to serve
as a mentor within the Advancement Office.
• Exceptional collaboration and interpersonal skills and the ability to be effective when engaging with all levels within the school.
Conversant in planned giving opportunities and able to engage donors in conversations about planned giving.
• High degree of professionalism, ethical sensitivity, and discretion.
• Excellent organization and time management skills.
• Exceptional writing and oral communication skills
• Commitment to the mission and values of Tabor, a passion for learning and continuous professional
development, and a commitment to engaging in the school community by participating in significant
on-campus activities such as Tabor Day, Fall and Winter Family Weekends, and Reunion Weekend.
• Flexibility and willingness to travel as a representative of the Tabor Academy.
