Job Summary:
The Mechanic/Service Technician performs skilled mechanical maintenance work and small repairs of school buses as well as light, heavy gasoline, and diesel powered automotive, grounds equipment, and small engine repair. This position is responsible for the bus fleet and other equipment maintenance and documentation. Assists with movement and planning for the Transportation Department.
Salary: $23-$30/hour

Responsibilities:
- Regularly inspect and maintain school buses per Oregon Department of Education (ODE) standards
- Perform preventive maintenance and maintenance repairs, requisitions and maintains adequate parts and material inventory. Maintain required and pertinent records in digital database and paper files
- Inspect, diagnose, and make minor repairs to the mechanical and electrical system of buses, golf carts, tractors, and mowers
- Repair various automotive components on these vehicles, including, but not limited to changing oil, tires, transmission fluids, air filters, lubrication, light bulbs, reflective tape, etc.
- Coordinate with Transportation Supervisor to ensure that buses are sent to shop(s) for major repairs and/or ODE annuals on schedule
- Clear vehicles for use following repairs and test drive them to ensure their safety & road worthiness
- Regularly assess transportation needs through FMX database and compare bus availability to match needs
- Assist with staging and pre-checking buses prior to route or trip departure. Assist with fueling buses
- Respond to road emergencies in the event of a breakdown, including traveling to site or arranging for service or towing; assist driver with troubleshooting on site or via phone
- Assist in performing school bus evacuation drills
- Maintain landscaping motorized equipment, including 2-stroke blowers, trimmers, and weed whips, according to operator manuals and perform preventive maintenance two times per year or as required by seasonal changes
- Observe all safety regulations and policies
- Reconcile fuel and lube records; maintain and refill fuel pumps and above ground tanks per industry standards and regulatory agencies
- Keep an organized and well-maintained shop and maintain a professional appearance
- Participate in required professional development and training to support Catlin Gabel mission, including ODE and other mechanic workshops and trainings
- Attend departmental and schoolwide employee meetings
- Maintain effective working relationships with other members of the Department as well as other school personnel and community members

- Must be 21 years of age or older
- High School diploma or GED required
- Required two years of experience with school bus maintenance or five years of experience in related fields
- Completion of accredited courses in trade school or trade apprenticeship programs in power mechanics, diesel service\mechanics, gasoline engines, small gas engines, two cycle engines, or related fields is preferred but not required
- Must obtain and maintain an Oregon CDL and Oregon School Bus Driver's certificate within 90 days of hire
- Must obtain and maintain ODE Bus Inspector certification within 120 days of hire
- Good recent driving record
