About Francis Parker School:
Francis Parker School is a coeducational independent day school in San Diego, California with 1315 students in grades JK-12. One in Mission Hills (Lower School JK-5), and a second in Linda Vista (Middle and Upper School 6-8 and 9-12, respectively).
Job Description:
To provide targeted Reading, Writing and Math instructional support to students, capturing actual progress through the administration of appropriate assessments. The incumbent will provide small group instruction and intervention services to grade 3-5 students under the direction of the Learning Specialist. This position supports Lower School students from 7:45-11:45, Monday-Friday.
Qualifications:
- A degree (B.A., B.S., Masters in Education preferred) plus a minimum of three years teaching experience at the elementary level. Experience providing targeted intervention at the elementary level required. Preferred certification as learning specialist, intervention specialist, or reading specialist.
- Be familiar with independent, college preparatory school curriculum and have knowledge of benchmark goals for each grade level.
- Specialization in Reading and Writing and Math remediation
- Understands learning processes and has the ability to differentiate instruction
- Ability to work with a team of colleagues, classroom teachers, and parents
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Familiarity with Mac programs and Google Suite
- Experience with the Fundations Reading program preferred
Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
- Assists Learning Specialist in conducting classroom observations
- Assists classroom teachers in evaluating students’ skills and collaborates in planning the instructional strategies.
- Assists in the selection of appropriate materials to be utilized for intervention based on initial assessments.
- Provides demonstrations of new methods and materials (i.e. team teaching, push in work in the classroom)
- Interprets and disseminates results from a variety of classroom assessments (ex. DRA, chapter tests) and any other standardized measures of assessment.
- Shares post-instructional assessment results with the classroom teacher as well as the Student Support Team in a weekly meeting.
Professional responsibilities include:
Academic Support
- Implements a remediation plan for students who have been identified as performing below grade level benchmarks.
- Utilizes an agreed upon method of intervention and instruction for students
- Responsible for maintaining current data and records showing student progress. These benchmark tests should be given on an agreed-upon timeframe.
- Responsible for maintaining leveled literacy and math materials for the variety of student needs
- Plans and conducts periodic assessments to monitor student progress to assess the need for changes to intervention support
Remediation
- With the Student Support Team, assesses the Referrals for Assistance (RFA) from parents/ guardians, and teachers
- Provides remedial instruction for students Grades 3-5 in collaboration with teachers and Student Support Services, through small group instruction.
- Provides “push in” support for students with identified needs
- Provides staff development opportunities, in conjunction with the Learning Specialist, for teachers regarding instructional strategies.
Salary and Benefits:
The rate of pay is between $28-30/per hour. This position is not eligible for benefits.
