The Dean of Faculty serves as the exemplar for teaching at Laurel Springs School, implements the vision of the Education team, and leads the Academic Department Chairs (ADCs) in the delivery of curriculum, instruction, and professional development for teachers. The Dean of Faculty is an inspiring education thought leader with deep knowledge of research-based K-12 pedagogy, education technology, and online teaching and learning. The Dean of Faculty will possess exceptional leadership skills, a strong background in teaching, supervision, and professional development, a demonstrated commitment to a student-centered education experience, and the ability to communicate effectively with a wide variety of stakeholders.
This is a remote position.
Responsibilities:
- Promote a positive school culture aligned with the school’s mission and needs of online students
- Foster a collaborative, collegial culture of professional learning and student-centered teaching
- Represent the faculty as a key member of the Education leadership team
- Manage and supervise a team of department chairs and K-12 teachers
- Hire and onboard highly-qualified faculty and staff in partnership with the Talent Acquisition team
- Lead faculty meetings
- Design and deliver professional development for faculty and staff about innovative and effective pedagogy
- Ensure academic policies are upheld and processes are followed, including oversight of the implementation of the Honor Code
- Collect and analyze data, interpret results, and communicate findings to ensure the implementation of effective instructional practices and the progress of student learning
- Manage and enhance academic support services for students
- Develop and implement creative teacher-based student retention solutions
- Provide direct support for students, parents, faculty, and staff through communications via email, telephone, video conferencing, and newsletters
- Collaborate with colleagues across the school to ensure alignment with our mission, reach accreditation goals, and assist with preparation for and participate in accreditation reviews
- Keep abreast of evolutions in technology and instructional practice through the attendance of professional meetings and conferences, the development of relationships with professionals in the field, and participation in the affairs of professional organizations
- Represent the school at meetings and conferences on the local, state, and national level, serving as an expert in the area of online education and technologies and occasionally making presentations pertaining to the field
- Participate actively in the life of the school, including open houses, onboarding sessions, and school events and activities, including Year-End Celebrations
- Perform other duties as assigned
Essential Skills & Experience:
- Master’s Degree in education required
- 3+ years of leadership and management experience in education; prior experience as a department chair or teacher of teachers preferred
- Demonstrated knowledge of synchronous and asynchronous pedagogy
- Prior experience managing complex projects
- Must be a detail-oriented manager
- Ability to motivate people, instill accountability, and achieve results
