OVERVIEW
The Kinkaid School is seeking an innovative, energetic, and experienced educator and visionary with a passion for creative writing to become the School’s first Creative Writing Director to begin in August 2023. Reporting to the Director of Visual and Performing Arts, the Creative Writing Director is a member of a vibrant visual and performing arts department.
Kinkaid’s creative writing program is a six-year curriculum beginning in the 7th grade and continuing through high school. The curriculum allows students to explore the creative process through various literary genres, including short stories, poetry, personal essays, memoirs, plays, and screenplays. The program currently produces both a middle school and upper school annual literary magazine as well as a soon-to-be instituted on-line platform showcasing student work.
Kinkaid is a non-sectarian college preparatory day school enrolling over 1,400 boys and girls in grades pre-kindergarten through twelve. Located in Houston, Texas, the School has three divisions: Lower School (Pre-Kindergarten, Kindergarten, and grades 1-4), Middle School (grades 5-8), and Upper School (grades 9-12). Kinkaid is accredited by the Independent Schools Association of the Southwest.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Serve as both visionary and integrator for the creative writing program.

Teach creative writing classes for 7th-12th grades.

Lead creative writing students through the creation and publication of the annual literary magazines: Pen Power and Falcon Wings.

Manage the creative writing budget.

Manage and administrate the Scholastic Writing Awards.

Organize and Manage all Guest Artists for the program.

Research and manage external writing contests to which our students can submit work.

Organize two upper school creative writing readings and institute a middle school program.

Investigate implementing a performance poetry component to our curriculum.

Work with the publications faculty to symbiotically assist each other with editing, as needed.

Evaluate all creative writing supplements submitted as optional portfolios for Kinkaid admissions.

Establish and maintain open, informative and friendly communications with students and parents.

Maintain regular school hours.
