This full-time position at Wesley Prep requires an individual who is skilled in designing interactive and engaging lessons for students in the 5th and 6th grades. The classroom teacher is highly collaborative and committed to designing and adapting instruction to meet the needs of each student. They are skilled in establishing strong relationships with students and providing effective and consistent communication with parents regarding students’ behaviors, academic concerns, and progress. The 5th and 6th grade math and science teacher is responsible for creating a joyful classroom environment that develops the essential competencies of 5th and 6th grade math and science.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Teach math and science to two sections of 5th graders and two sections of 6th graders.  
• Serve as a 5th and 6th grade team member, providing support for grade level events and projects. 
• Implement project-based, hands-on learning opportunities in math and science 
• Serve as a role model and advisor to our 5th and 6th grade students 
• Evaluate and assess student progress through participation in Care Team meetings 
• Use classroom management systems that are focused on students’ social emotional needs. 
• Properly prepare our 5th and 6th graders for the transition to another school in 7th grade  
• Integrate technology appropriately and intentionally into the curriculum following best practices 
• Provide a positive environment that encourages students to actively participate in their own learning  
• Serve as a trip chaperone on grade level hallmark experiences 
• Model professional and ethical standards when working with students, families, colleagues, and the community. 
• Schedule regular tutorial time once or twice weekly to help students before or after school 

Requirements:

• Hold a minimum of a bachelor's degree in related area 
• Able to maintain safety and appropriate supervision of children in your care 
• Able to maintain and manage team spending budget for your students and curricular areas
• Able to collaborate with teammates 
• Able to collaborate with content area teachers in other grade levels to ensure curriculum alignment 
• Minimum 2-4 years classroom teaching experience 
• Proficiency with technology, especially Google Classroom 
• Commitment to fulfill duties and responsibilities such as afternoon carpool, supervision of students at recess and lunch, volunteering at school events 
• Willing to complete 24 professional development hours each school year
