Position Description:
St. Mary’s is seeking a Middle School Math Teacher. This is a full-time, benefits eligible position for the 2023-2024 school year. The Middle School Math Teacher is responsible for planning, organizing and implementing an appropriate instructional program in a 6th - 8th grade learning environment that guides and encourages students to develop and fulfill their potential. The teacher is responsible for creating a positive classroom community and promoting character development. The Middle School Math Teacher will be responsible for delivering a math curriculum to grades 6 – 8, which may include Pre-Algebra, Algebra 1 and/or Geometry. The teacher will promote a respectful working environment across the entire faculty. Work is performed under the supervision of the Middle Division Head and Head of School. Participation is required in weekly Middle Division teacher meetings as well as full faculty meetings.

In addition, the Middle School Math Teacher will have a proven ability to work and communicate well with young children through adolescents, as well as their parents, embrace the St. Mary’s Episcopal Day School culture and educational model, collaborate with fellow faculty members, and serve as a contributing member of the school community. The Middle School Math Teacher must be comfortable using and learning new or best-practice technology to present information or to expand on a lesson taught in class.
Essential Functions:
St. Mary’s Episcopal Day School seeks a dynamic teacher who is qualified to teach 6th – 8th grade students and is equally committed to working in a collaborative environment. Candidates must possess specialization in the delivery of the core curriculum and foster character development. Responsibilities include:
- Foster a professional, respectful, and appreciative environment that values the contributions of all team members.
- Support, carry out, and promote the school’s mission and values and consistently abide by policies and expectations stated in the school’s Employee Handbook.
- Actively pursue professional growth; participate in the school’s professional growth and evaluation framework.
- Create and maintain a classroom environment that is “safe” physically, emotionally, and socially for each child. Student safety must always be priority number one.
- Assess students in multiple ways to evaluate their abilities, strengths, and areas of growth and improvement.
- Teach and plan lessons to an entire class or to smaller groups.
- Grade students’ assignments and exams and post grades to our Saints Portal in a timely manner.
- Work with students individually to help them overcome specific learning challenges or remain engaged through personalized and/or enhanced content in the subject matter.
- Prepare students for assessments using a variety of brain-based techniques.
- Communicate regularly with parents or guardians about their child’s progress.
- Develop and enforce classroom rules as well as helping students uphold the S Mary’s Universals.
- Create a classroom environment that values diversity and inclusion.
- Supervise students outside of the classroom during snack, transfers, recess, lunch, study hall or other areas as needed.
- Plan lessons, grade assignments, meet with Division Heads and colleagues, and communicate with parents during non-classroom times.
- Help students transition to high school math including writing recommendations and helping to prepare students to take placement tests.
- Serve as a Middle School Advisor and/or Homeroom Teacher.
- Make necessary accommodations for students with learning differences, as directed by the Division Head or Student Support & Enrichment team.
- Follow child safety and reporting requirements in the case of suspected child abuse or neglect.
- Attend conferences and professional development opportunities on a regular basis in order to remain current with industry trends and best practices.
- Participate in committee, department, and staff meetings as well as school-sponsored events.
- Uphold professional standards of personal presentation, punctuality, professional courtesy, and discretion.
- Be involved in the school community at large.
- Foster a shared sense of purpose and community among co-workers.
- Assume responsibility for other projects and duties as assigned by the Division Head or Head of School.
Education & Experience:
- Undergraduate Degree and/or Graduate degree in Education or related field.
- Preferred 3-5+ years demonstrated experience working in school setting

St. Mary’s Episcopal Day School, Inc., (the “School”) is a not-for-profit organization established in 1953 and rebuilt beginning in 2001.
The School, located in Tampa, Florida, is a co-educational day school that provides education to students from pre-kindergarten through eighth grade serving approximately 450 students. The School is accredited through the Florida Council of Independent Schools (FCIS) and the Southern Association of Independent Schools (SAIS).
Competitive athletics are offered in 6th - 8th grades, with approximately 95-100% of middle school students involved in organized competitive sports. The School offers Boys' Soccer, Girls' Soccer, Girls' Volleyball, Girls' and Boys' Cross Country, Boys' and Girls' Basketball, Girls' and Boys' Track and Field, Girls' Softball, Boys' Baseball, Cheerleading, and Boys' and Girls' Tennis. •The School, rebuilt in 2001, is housed in a two-story building consisting of 30 classrooms, a health room, two science labs, art
... room, music room, video production studio, computer lab, eight administrative offices, conference rooms, a faculty work area, and a media center containing more than 15,000 volumes.
•The Laird Center, completed in the fall of 2014, contains a full court gymnasium with two full-size practice courts, a bouldering wall and athletic equipment facilities. The Laird Center also includes a multipurpose room, six classrooms, three offices, a food servery, an enrichment room, an after-school care area, a patio and balcony, and the school's Board Room.
•St. Mary's Hall was built in 2006 and is an auditorium with stage, church office space and an event center used by both the School and the Church.
•St. Mary's Church was built in 2002 and includes offices and church classrooms, including the sanctuary.
Other facilities include two playgrounds, a courtyard, a turf athletic field, an outdoor hardcourt and two parking lots.
