Derby Academy, a Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 8 co-educational day school with 350 students located in Hingham, Massachusetts, seeks an inaugural Director of Digital Inquiry to support faculty, staff, and students in delivering a high-quality educational experience. Rooted in the school’s motto, “Improve Both Mind and Heart,” Derby provides students with a joyful and rigorous academic environment. The Director of Digital Inquiry will be responsible for cultivating an appreciation for reading, research, library, and digital wellness skills in Upper School (grades 6-8) students, as well as promoting the best practices of digital literacy and teaching for PK-8 faculty. The Director will teach a Digital Wellness and Inquiry course to Upper School students. This is a 10-month faculty position that reports to the Director of Information and Education Technology.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate:
- a depth of digital literacy teaching experience;
- the ability to create and teach a Digital Wellness and Inquiry curriculum to Upper School students;
- exceptional collaboration skills to partner with classroom teachers to assess, design, and co-teach learning experiences that incorporate relevant digital literacy skills through content areas;
- deep familiarity with library and technology standards to identify and align them within the existing curriculum and suggest additions as appropriate;
- keen awareness of and enthusiasm for children’s literature to partner with the School Librarian to assess the Upper School Library collection and suggest changes based on the needs of faculty and students;
- the ability to reimagine and reinvigorate existing Library space into a destination for students and champion its use;
- extensive experience with a variety of instructional technology tools in order to assess classroom technology and associated faculty training needs;
- the desire to work one-on-one with PK-8 faculty to integrate transformative technology skills into the curriculum;
- proven ability to lead PK-8 faculty professional development workshops to introduce innovative tools and best practices for their use.
- an understanding of Google Classroom and Instructional Design principles;
- technical knowledge of and ability to trouble-shoot classroom hardware and software;
- a commitment to customer service focused on meeting the needs of faculty, staff, students, and parents;
- the ability to consistently exercise discretion and good judgment;
- successful experience developing active and inclusive learning spaces in which faculty, staff, and students feel safe, honored, appreciated, and respected for who they are;
- the leadership qualities to inspire, motivate, and develop students;
- the ability to nurture a deep feeling of community through actions and attitudes;
- strong planning, problem-solving, and communication skills along with exceptional written, oral, interpersonal, and presentation skills;
- A Bachelor’s degree in Library Science, Educational Technology, or similar field. A Master’s degree is desirable, ISTE, Google, or Apple certifications are a plus.
