Germantown Friends School is seeking an enthusiastic, creative, and energetic teacher capable of teaching subjects in the biological and physical sciences to join our Middle School science faculty. This position is well suited for motivated professionals who are looking for the freedom to teach unique and challenging courses to develop science skills and concepts at the middle school level.
The Ideal candidate
- is highly collaborative and will be comfortable working closely with colleagues.
- has previous experience teaching laboratory-based science at both the middle and upper school level courses.
- actively and consistently considers curriculum and pedagogy through the lenses of diversity, equity, and inclusion.
- has experience leading student-driven scientific research.
- has experience teaching and designing elective courses.
- has an advanced degree.
- has experience advising students.
Expectations:
- Manage a full-time teaching load which may include sections of middle school biological sciences and middle school physical sciences.
- Manage and organize laboratory equipment.
- Serve as an advisor which include the responsibilities of leading advisory conversations, structuring daily homeroom sessions, and acting as a mentor and first point of contact for advisees.
- Meet regularly with school leaders as requested to discuss teaching work with students as part of the evaluation process at GFS.
- Write narrative assessments based on well-maintained records of student work and submit them in a timely fashion.
- Support the school mission and strategic initiatives.
- Participate in the life of the school, including advisory roles, professional development, faculty meetings, and committee work.
