Report: Director of Academic Strategies Program
Oldfields School, an all-girls international boarding and day school, grades 8-12, located in northern Baltimore County, seeks applicants for a Learning Support Specialist beginning in January 2023. This is a full-time, exempt position. This is an outstanding opportunity for a professional educator who possesses a high degree of integrity and holds a keen interest and deep commitment to the value of single-sex independent school education.
The Learning Support Specialist works collaboratively with other staff in the Academic Strategies Program as well as teaching faculty and advisors to provide academic support and guidance for students identified with specific learning challenges, as well as students who would benefit from academic coaching.
Primary Responsibilities include:
- Teach students study skills/strategies, test-taking skills, time and materials management skills, and math skills in one-on-one, in small groups, or in classes.
- Review psycho-educational testing and assist in generating student Oldfields Accommodation Plans (OAPs) as needed. Review plans with students, parents and appropriate faculty.
- Knowledgeable about Individual with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).
- Communicate regularly with parents and student advisors highlighting goals and outcomes of the student’s academic coaching sessions.
- Collaborate with the Academic Strategies Program Team and Health and Wellness Team to design and present professional development to faculty and staff.
- Communicate effectively with teachers to collaboratively meet students’ needs.
- Partner with the Academic Strategies Program Team to manage the in-house peer tutor program.
- Actively engage and support the School’s commitment to a diverse, equitable, and inclusive community as defined by the School’s Diversity Statement and strategic plans and initiatives.
- Regularly attend academic department and faculty meetings.
- Serve on weekend duty team rotations.
- Adhere to and assist in enforcing school policies and procedures.
- Promote the mission of the School.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Special Education, School Counseling or a closely related field. Graduate experience in Special Education and/or School Counseling is preferred.
- Math specialty or training desired.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Embraces the all-encompassing and interactive culture of a boarding school community.
- Demonstrated commitment to equity and inclusion and a high degree of cultural competency.
