Lower School Music Teacher
Beginning August 24, 2023
Reports to: Lower School Division Head
FLSA: Exempt
Salary Range: $62,000 - $71,000 annually, commensurate with education and experience
Convent of the Sacred Heart, seeks a Lower School Music Teacher to begin in late August 2023.
The principal role of the Lower School Music Teacher is to collaborate with the Performing Arts Team to create curriculum, to foster community, and to instill a love for music and education in a girls’ educational environment. The candidate should have pedagogical knowledge of the socio-emotional needs of children, as well as a commitment to the development of the whole child. The candidate will participate in the life of the School in ways beyond the specific job description and should be willing to collaborate with other faculty and staff on events which may take place on nights and weekends throughout the school year. This role requires excellent communication skills, creativity, flexibility, and the ability to work well within a collaborative environment.
Requirements:
- Proficiency in Keyboard Skills and Sacred Music Liturgies, experience with playing the Organ for Masses and/or Sacred Services preferred
- Experience in Music Education and Music Teaching, in particular a knowledge of Pre-K- Grade 4 curriculum
- Knowledge of child development, especially in connection with music, instrumental performance, world music, and classroom management
- Masters Degree in Education, Music, and/or Music Education
Preferred Skills and Expertise:
- Strong background in music with experience teaching and developing children’s productions encompassing a wide knowledge of diverse resources
- Familiarity with planning and the execution of Liturgical Music, especially with Sacred Services
- A breadth of comprehension pertaining to World Music and music education
- Proficiency in the use of classroom and media technology: interactive SMART boards, learning management systems, Google Suite, iMovie, or similar programs
Responsibilities:
- Design, implement, teach, and evaluate curriculum for students in Grades Pre-Kindergarten to 4th Grade through collaboration with the Lower School Performing Arts Team
- Prepare and accompany students in annual productions on the keyboard, including Christmas and Spring performances and school wide events
- Consult with the Liturgical Team on masses and services, and accompany on the keyboard and/or organ
- Commit to addressing social justice, diversity, equity, and anti-racist, anti-bias education in the curriculum through lessons, actions, and discussions
- Provide administrative support with room and rehearsal schedules
- Track and assess student progress by communicating with classroom teachers and LS Admin
- Provide information on individual student progress on twice-yearly report cards as well as twice-yearly conferences
- Perform assigned, ongoing scheduled responsibilities with care (roof duty, lunch duty, dismissal, etc.)
