Colorado Academy seeks candidates for the position of Upper School Engineering teacher. This full-time, ongoing appointment reports to the Director of Technology. The position begins in mid-August 2023.
We seek candidates who have strong training and expertise in the study of Engineering and Design, as well as experience incorporating elements of other disciplines, such as computer science and art, when appropriate. In collaboration with the Director of Technology, the engineering instructor will be responsible for refining CA’s engineering curriculum to ensure that our program creates an intentional bridge between Grades 9 and 12 in terms of process, content, and skills. We seek candidates with a demonstrated passion for leveraging their experience and expertise to evolve and strengthen programs within the engineering field.
The Upper School Innovation lab includes a fabrication space managed by a separate Engineering Manager and includes woodshop tools such as a CNC mill, laser cutter, 3D printers, and other modern tools.
- Teach four classes in the Upper School Innovation Lab in areas such as Introduction to Engineering, 2D/3D Modeling, and Fabrication
- Expertise using tools for fabrication, such as wood and metal working, CNC mills, laser cutters, and 3D printers
- Familiarity using 2D or 3D Modeling CAD software (such as Fusion 360, Solidworks, OnShape, or similar)
- Experience with programming and electronics such as Arduino, Raspberry Pi, or other robotics platforms is preferred
- A flexible and growth mindset—this position is likely to evolve over time as the Engineering program expands and new classes are developed
- Serving as an advisor for a group of 10-12 students
Qualifications
- Minimum four-year degree from an accredited college or university; advanced degree or significant industry experience preferred
- Interest in multidisciplinary classes, such as in the area of blending computer science, engineering, robotics, science, and art
- Excellent oral and written communications skills
Candidates should be eager to join a professional community where collaboration is valued, where rich curricular conversations are common, and where openness to growth is the norm. Excellent interpersonal skills are required. Demonstrated intercultural competence: the ability to understand and bridge diverse perspectives, identities, and lived experiences is a must.
The most successful candidates will approach their role as an advisor with a drive to better understand the emotional needs of their students and support a program where self-reflection, empathy, and flexibility are the goals.
All CA teachers are expected to carry out the mission of CA, "Creating Curious, Kind, Courageous, and Adventurous Learners and Leaders," and to support the vision of the Upper School.
The pay range for the position is $50,000 - $75,000. Although $50,000 - $75,000 is a good faith and reasonable estimate of the possible compensation at the time of posting, Colorado Academy reserves the right to pay more or less than the posted range. Any wage differential that may exist for the position does not relate to sex, gender or gender identity, but relates solely to a seniority system, a merit system, or relevant education, training and/or experience.
