In 2023 we are expanding our Camp Director team. We are seeking a New York / Connecticut area based Camp Director (1) and a Massachusetts based Camp Director (1) who will be responsible for the site coordination for a series (one and / or a combination of) of week-long day camps operating in New York (5) and / or Connecticut (3) and or Massachusetts (5) and / or Rhode Island (1)
Our Camp Directors oversee the implementation of the academic program and daily camp operations. They liaise directly with site location personnel and oversee a team of program leaders, camp staff and interns. The Camp Director is ultimately responsible for the operation of a safe, inclusive and welcoming camp experience for all campers and camper parents.
Debate Camps throughout the US Northeast are accredited by the American Camping Association and comply with the highest available standards for the safe operation of recreational camps for youth. Related operating standards are available on: https://www.debatecamp.com/accreditation

The successful candidate will have excellent leadership, organizational, communication, problem solving skills. They will have experience in teaching and learning strategies for youth aged 11 – 16. The position does not require the successful candidate to have a background in competitive debate, but rather a degree of ability as a classroom educator, a natural manager of groups, teams and an ability to build relationships well with all of camp’s stakeholders; parents, campers and partner-school community members.
The successful candidate will be able to enrich and support our staff experience, with particular reference to the teaching and learning modules we review with our whole team ahead of the summer. Full details on this pre-camp component are available on: https://www.teacher.camp/
The ideal candidate will have a degree in education and / or related professional certification as well as 1-3 years of classroom teaching experience. A background in summer camps, day and/or overnight is an asset.
About Debate Camp
Debate Camp has operated academic-enrichment summer camps in public speaking, debate and Model UN, across Canada since 2002. In 2023 we have 22 sessions, over 12 locations (9 in Canada and 4 in the Northeastern United States) The mission and philosophy of our program is:
Debate Camp aims to empower students with the skills of effective communication and teamwork through the avenues of debate and public speaking. The goal of our program is to create informed and articulate global citizens in a fun and exciting learning environment.
We believe that "camp" creates a novel and secure learning environment in which campers feel safe to try new skills, think on their feet, see the opposing view, and work well with others. We are an academic enrichment experience that sets itself up in some summer-friendly locations and aims to deliver a powerful week of learning that turns out to be fun as well.
CAMPS PROFILE: Debate Camp Canada operates 1 week day and 1 - 2 week (6 day / 6 night) overnight camps. Campers in grades 5 to 11, are streamed by ability, with novice, intermediate and competitive (Level Up) instruction at all camps. Camps range in size from a minimum of 30 campers to a maximum of 120 campers in a single week/location. Staff to camper ratio is 1:8
