Required Education:
4 Year Degree
Summer at Lakeside is currently recruiting for a Computer Science 2 &3 teacher. These courses, which are often taken in succession, introduce students to computer programming through the Java language. These courses are structured around a series of projects that teach the principles and techniques of software engineering, culminating in an independent project which is presented to the class at the end of each course. Taking both courses prepares students for success on the AP Computer Science Exam in May. Computer Science 2 covers a semester’s worth of material, including elementary algorithms, data types, flow of control, user input, file input/output, recursion and some graphical applications using procedural programming techniques. Computer Science 3 covers object-oriented programming and inheritance in Java, more advanced data structures (lists, stacks, queues, trees), and the efficiency and complexity algorithms (particularly searching, sorting). These are graded courses, and students will earn one half year of credit (semester) for each three-week course. There will be two to three hours of homework assigned each day. Class runs June 26 – August 4, 9 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. No classes will be held July 4 for the national holiday. Monday, July 3 will be an online (asynchronous) learning workday. Students will be assigned approximately 5 hours of work to complete on that day. Classes July 5-July 7 will run 9am-2:30pm to make up the instructional time lost for the holiday. There will also be a mandatory orientation on Thursday, June 22.
