Gifft Hill School in beautiful St. John, USVI is looking for an outstanding second grade teacher who can live our mission and vision of providing a dynamic, rigorous academic program that supports students with a range of learning styles and readiness levels; within a climate that fosters a love of learning, mutual respect, and the importance of personal responsibility. Successful candidates will have experience at the primary school level, and expertise in managing both small group and whole class instruction using sound instructional practices and positive, proactive classroom management strategies. He/she will demonstrate the capacity to teach in an interdisciplinary manner, to collaborate effectively with aids and specialists, and to maintain a high standard of personalized communication with parents. Preference will be given to candidates who have experience teaching in a K-3 classroom, in using the Fountas and Pinnell reading program, and the 6 + 1 Writing Traits in writing instruction. With the island as our classroom, teachers who seek to build a school community rich in rigorous academics and daily experiences of discovery, and who can model adaptability and teamwork for their students will be a wonderful match to this position.
