SUMMARY
Greenhill School seeks a Middle School History teacher who has a love of connecting past to present and can make the past come alive through engaging and lively activities. The Middle School history program promotes skill-building, perspective taking, and rigorous examination of the past as it connects to the present. The 5/6 history position requires faculty to work collaboratively to build and implement a challenging program. The faculty member will join experienced grade level and history teaching teams in a community that has high expectations of equity and student engagement.
This is a full-time, 10-month, exempt position. Some evening and weekend work is required.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The school seeks an outstanding educator for Middle School History, whose duties comprise teaching four sections of Middle School History in fifth and sixth grades by:
- Creating an environment for students to discover, explore, and connect the past, present, and future;
- Facilitating the study of history through various lenses and perspectives;
- Modeling and guiding respectful dialogue and discourse regarding current events;
- Fostering an appreciation for cultural differences;
- Building foundational skills in content reading, analytical writing, note-taking, critical thinking, collaboration, and research skills;
- Collaborating with other members of the History Department to design and implement curriculum;
- Serving as a grade level advisor and team member managing all aspects of the grade level experience;
QUALIFICATIONS
The ideal candidate will:
- Have a rich background in the teaching of world history: ancient civilizations through the Renaissance;
- Have the ability to support students in their acquisition and development of reading, writing, and research skills as well as age-appropriate executive functioning skills;
- Be enthusiastic about creating student-centered lessons that allow young learners to explore complex topics in a variety of ways;
- Have 3-5 years of prior teaching experience with Middle School or upper elementary students;
- Demonstrate excellent communication skills both written and spoken and a highly refined work ethic;
- Be willing to continuously develop as a teacher through professional development opportunities both internal and external;
- Be motivated to find ways to contribute to the life of the School through coaching, clubs, etc.;
- Have the optimism, desire, and positive enthusiasm to work with Middle School students.

- Have a desire to contribute to a community where the people, culture, and curriculum rely on actively engaging difference.
- Show a demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion (e.g., familiarity with concepts; evidence of relevant personal growth; examples of relevant practice, etc.).
