Lowell School, a progressive school of 340 students in NW Washington, DC, is seeking applicants for a full-time Middle School science teacher to teach geoscience, life and physical science and to support the progressive integration of STEAM and Outdoor Science Education content and skills. The science teacher is part of a grade-level team that seeks opportunities for collaboration with teachers from other disciplines on integrated projects, as well as collaborates with other science teachers across the school to plan and implement a hands-on curriculum. The Middle School science teacher also serves as an advisor for a grade-level group of students.
The ideal candidate is a team-oriented, knowledgeable, and innovative lifelong learner who is reflective about their practice, brings ‘real life’ into the classroom, and seeks out professional development and leadership opportunities.
Desired Qualifications
- A degree in education focusing on science and at least three years of experience in teaching (alternate pathways will be considered)
- A student-centered pedagogy and comfort with differentiating instruction
- Experience with curriculum development and curriculum integration, varied assessment strategies, and constructivist teaching/learning approaches
- Strong skills in teaching a design process of ideation, experimentation, analysis, and iteration
- The ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and families
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Strong executive management, organizational, and scheduling skills
- A commitment to Lowell’s mission of “creating an inclusive community of lifelong learners in which each individual is valued and respected.”
- Leads a nationally recognized Climate Club for 10-12 students.
- Assumes other responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Middle School.
