Division Head/Principal
Duke School seeks an inspired, dynamic, and highly relational educator to lead a Lower School and contribute to a strong Leadership Team as Lower School Director.
The Director has responsibility for curriculum oversight, supporting classroom teachers, support staff, and specialist teachers, and confidently partnering with parents/guardians through clear, compassionate communication and ongoing parent education. As Duke School celebrates its 75th year as the leading progressive institution in the region, students are encouraged and empowered to think critically and compassionately, pose questions, wonder, dig deep, and truly find joy in discovery.
Reporting to the Head of School, the Lower School Director (preschool–fourth grade) will demonstrate authentic respect for the strength and capacity of young children and deep knowledge of their developmental stages. The Director will possess an educational philosophy rooted in progressive pedagogy and constructivist education, will have familiarity with and be able to articulate the project approach, and will commit to social-emotional learning, particularly responsive classroom practice. This is a tremendous opportunity for a leader who finds true joy and delight in working with Lower School students.
