OAK HILL SCHOOL POSITION DESCRIPTION
Position Title: Middle School Director
Curriculum Areas: All
Grades: 6-8 Grade
Location: Oak Hill School, Eugene, OR
Schedule: A 1.0 FTE Contract is – 40 hours per week.
Reports to: Co-Head of School, Faculty and Curriculum

Under the direction of the Co-Head of School, Faculty and Curriculum, the Middle School Director serves as an instructional leader in the planning, coordination, and administration of middle school activities and programs, including curriculum, instruction, assessment, student conduct and attendance, athletics and extracurricular programs, and the supervision and evaluation of assigned personnel.
Major Position Responsibilities
- Assists in the development, implementation, and evaluation of academic programs that address the needs and expectations of Oak Hill School students.
- Assists the Co-Head of School, Faculty and Curriculum in the creation and maintenance of the middle school academic schedule in collaboration with the middle school faculty.
- Proactively monitors and manages the middle school schedule, including assigning and managing class coverage with teachers and substitutes.
- Assists the Co-Head of School, Faculty and Curriculum with report/progress report review and distribution.
- Monitor the middle school calendar, proactively prioritizing, planning, and organizing events in support of the mission, including planning, facilities arrangements, materials, food service, and Zoom hosting in coordination with the front office team.
- Performs a variety of administrative duties to assist the Co-Head of School, Faculty and Curriculum in managing the middle school.
- Assists the Co-Head of School, Faculty and Curriculum in providing instructional leadership to the middle school.
- Supervises and evaluates the performance of designated middle school faculty; assigns duties to faculty as appropriate to meet school objectives; assists with the recruiting, interviewing, and selection of new middle school faculty.
- Develops and administers disciplinary procedures in accordance with Oak Hill School policies and state laws; receives referrals and confers with students, parents, and teachers; responds to and resolves parent, student, and staff concerns and complaints; serves on discipline or expulsion panels as assigned.
- Provides direction to a variety of faculty and student programs; participates in formal and informal classroom visitations and observations; provides recommendations and suggestions for improvement as appropriate.
- Provides mentorship and support to new and existing middle school faculty.
- Attends meetings of parent associations and other groups; coordinates supervision for afternoon and evening middle school activities as needed.
- Works with the Co- Head of School to establish a safe and secure learning environment for middle students.
- Participates in administrative meetings and training to improve administrative skills; maintains current knowledge of the school’s curriculum and policies.
- Exhibit flexibility, positivity and a willingness to collaborate on various teaching platforms including distance learning models, hybrid models, and on site models of education due to state policies around COVID-19.
Oak Hill Community Faculty members are expected to contribute to the creation of a collegial culture and contribute to the growth, and enhancement of the Oak Hill mission and programs.
- Attend and participate in all required meetings and exercise stewardship in the use of Oak Hill facilities and materials.
- Collaborate with faculty, staff and stakeholders to create, preserve, develop and enhance partnerships.
- Treat all members of the Oak Hill community with respect, demonstrating professional, courteous behavior and engage in constructive conflict resolution when needed.
- Participate in Oak Hill committees and instructional and school-wide planning to assist in recruitment and retention of students, faculty and staff.
- Attend and participate in professional development opportunities as offered by Oak Hill.
- Participation in nonacademic activities including but not limited to community events, class trips, etc.
Education and Experience Required.
- Bachelor’s Degree in a related field
- Proven knowledge and expertise to effectively perform the administrative duties listed above.
- At least three years prior classroom teaching experience is preferred.
- A positive attitude, excellent written and verbal skills, strong organizational skills, and proven success within a work setting that requires collaboration, cooperation, and collegiality.
- A willingness to collaborate and engage in dialogue about instructional practices with peers, and an interest in participating at a schoolwide level in activities is essential.
- Ability to incorporate interdisciplinary concepts into the middle school curriculum.

This position is subject to completion of a successful background check.
This position requires employees to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 as defined by Oregon State Law.
This position may be required to lift to 20lbs.
Physical demands include dexterity of office machine/supply operation including computer/telephone, copy machine and printers. Stooping, bending, and reaching for files or supplies required. Sitting or standing for extended periods of time are common.
Due to COVID, this position may be required to work on-site and via remote; however, the duties of the position cannot be fully completed via remote.
