Holy Innocents' Episcopal School is seeking a full-time Middle School Chorus Teacher for the 2023-2024 school year. HIES is the largest Episcopal Parish day school in the country, offering a fully accredited college preparatory program for students age three through 12th grade. HIES is located north of downtown Atlanta between I-75 and GA 400.
Music at Holy Innocents' Episcopal School is a key part of the Balanced Excellence in Arts. Students from PK3 through 12th grade take music classes and participate in chorus, band, orchestra and other exciting music activities. The Middle School music program offers students opportunities in chorus, band, orchestra, sound engineering and general music. Students are featured at special chapel services. Middle School music students are regularly awarded for excellence in GMEA, GISA and other competitions.
Typical Duties
- Teach and/or co-teach middle school choir classes
- Teach music theory as part of a Tour of Music rotation
- Lead student acapella groups in Middle School & Upper School
- Direct the Middle School & Upper School winter musical
- Prepare ensembles for concerts
- Participate in GMEA sponsored events
- Provide music for various HIES community events
- Organize field trips as part of the curriculum
- Maintain music library administration
- Support other performing arts programs in collaboration with other Fine Arts Instructors
- Communicate student progress clearly and effectively to students, parents and faculty, through emails, meetings, formal student reports.
Required Skills and Abilities
- Demonstrate a successful working knowledge of vocal pedagogy for the appropriate development of musical skills in adolescents
- Exhibit excellent communication and classroom management skills
- Direct a select choral ensemble
- Serve as a piano accompaniest on intermediate-level choral pieces
- Practice strong interpersonal skills conducive to teamwork and curriculum building
Educational and Other Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in music or music education
- Prior experience teaching in choir classrooms in the Middle or Upper School grades
- Master’s degree and Georgia teaching certificate are preferred, but not required.
