Position Purpose: The Assistant/Associate Director of College Counseling assists the other college counselors in managing the college search and application process for upper school students.
Essential Functions
• Counsels about 40 students (per grade) and their parents, individually and in groups, regarding college selection, application and admission procedures.
• Reviews college essays, provides supporting documentation, and reviews and edits advisor letters of recommendation.
• Assists with the SCOIR software including coordinating student and parent contact information for each class.
• Provides financial aid and scholarship information to families.
• Assists in managing the timely completion of faculty recommendations and reports for college applicants.
• Helps coordinate all office programming – including parent and student information events and joint programs with peer Charlotte independent schools.
• Represents the school at relevant state and national conferences and workshops; interacts with college representatives during on-campus visits.
• Travels to colleges during counselor tours and with administration to assist in maintaining communication with and knowledge of appropriate colleges.
• Additional duties like club advising, coaching, and academic advising are desired but not mandated.
• Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree required, master’s degree in subject matter and/or counseling preferred.
• 3+ years of experience of High School College Counseling or College Admissions required.
• Teaching and/or administration experience in an independent school environment or college admissions work also relevant.
• Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
• Demonstrated leadership and facilitative skills.
