Under the supervision of the Head of School, the Learning Specialist will provide Redwood students with support, instruction, and guidance rooted in best-practice educational standards and pedagogy, on an hourly basis. The specialist will provide support to students with a range of diverse learning needs in Pre-K through Eighth grades. In addition to providing direct support to students, the Learning Specialist will work closely with teachers to offer support in implementing classroom accommodations, using data collection and data-driven decision-making.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Support daily instruction and interventions for students identified as needing additional learning supports
- Work collaboratively with the Redwood Student Support Team, and maintain caseload to support students in need of curricular support and interventions
- Maintain a focus, but not limited to, supporting students in the areas of literacy and math interventions
- Partner with teachers to support differentiated instruction to meet the needs of students with diverse learning styles
- Organize and maintain data collection and student progress
- Provide consultation with teachers and families regarding individual student progress
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Understanding of child development and best practices in education
- Willingness to keep current through appropriate professional development
- Proven ability to work as a member of a team
- Commitment to implementing a multimodality and multi-sensory approach to reading and math instruction
- Familiarity with the philosophy of the school (amongst other things an inquiry-based approach to education in a non-competitive atmosphere), and an understanding of progressive education will be an asset
- Understanding of positive discipline
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree required; graduate degree preferred.
- Degree, endorsement, or coursework in reading instruction, literacy, and special education; graduate-level work preferred.
Experience:
- Minimum 2 years of teaching experience required.
- Experience with diverse learners required.
- Experience with teaching and supporting differentiated instruction for students with literacy-based learning challenges
