Ravenscroft School is an all gender independent day school in Raleigh, NC, with approximately 1,205 students enrolled in grades preschool through 12th grade.

We are looking for a Middle and Upper School Mandarin Teacher to join our community of educators that actively strive to be diverse, equitable and inclusive. As a Middle and Upper School Mandarin Teacher at Ravenscroft, here is what you get to do:

The successful candidate is an experienced educator with a passion for teaching Mandarin to both middle and upper school students. The teacher’s lessons are student-centered and infused with both theory and practice, and they skillfully incorporate technology and creativity.  Other responsibilities and competencies include:

• Teaching three sections, likely to include Mandarin 1A in the Middle School (7th grade), and Mandarin 1 and Honors Mandarin 2 in the Upper School (9th grade)
• Proctoring two study hall periods in the MIddle School
• Designing and delivering lessons that are supportive of Ravenscroft’s mission to “nurture individual potential and prepare students to thrive in a complex and interdependent world”
• Exhibiting superior teaching skills that demonstrate best practice according to ACTFL and including inquiry-based learning, differentiated instruction, and facilitation
• Cultural competence and the ability to connect with a diverse community of students, faculty, staff, and parents
• Advising approximately 12 students in the Upper School and facilitating the integration of Ravenscroft’s “Lead from Here” curriculum
• Demonstrating effective technology skills, including the ability to use Ravenscroft’s learning management systems (Canvas and Veracross) 
• Participating in other aspects of the School community such as serving on a committee or sponsoring a student club; experience and interest in coaching a sport is highly desirable
• Demonstrating a growth mindset and the ability to receive feedback, adapt to different learners’ needs, and become a valued colleague in a strong and cohesive department

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Chinese or Chinese K-12 Language Education; Master’s degree and experience teaching Middle and Upper School Mandarin highly desirable.
• Experience developing and teaching a proficiency-based curriculum preferred
• A minimum of Advanced Low Level on the ACTFL Oral Proficiency Scale.  Non-native speakers are required to provide documentation by way of the OPI or to make arrangements to take and achieve this level.
