Summary
This position instructs Synergy students, TK-5th grades. The teacher will plan, develop and deliver grade level physical education classes. The instruction should adhere to progressive pedagogy and reflects educational standards and best practices, while using a variety of instructional methods. And participates fully as a member of the Educational Cooperative.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Plan, develop and deliver a standards-based, transitional kindergarten through 5th grades physical education progressive curriculum, using a variety of instructional methods
- Develop a program which fosters teamwork, collaboration and cooperation among students
- Model and demonstrate movements, games, and activities
- Use a variety of tools, techniques and equipment to instruct students
- Assess the physical development and social growth of students, as it pertains to PE
- Manage communication with parents including phone, email, meetings, assessment and reporting.
- Practice the Synergy School agreement system and Synergy philosophy regarding growth and change.
- Communicate with classroom teachers and learning specialists regarding students with special learning needs. Modify and adapt curriculum
- Fulfill duties as a member of the teaching cooperative (supervising students during recess and lunch, drop-off and pick-up curb duty)
- Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
- Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications
- Experience teaching physical education, coaching sports teams, or physical fitness classes (e.g. yoga, dance)
Preferred Skills
- Bachelor’s degree
- Ability to develop and implement a project-based, anti-bias curriculum
- Commitment to progressive educational practices
- Understanding developmental stages and needs for children from 4 years of age through early adolescence, with emphasis on middle school age children
- Experience working with neuro-diverse learners
- Willingness to fulfill co-op duties
- Participate on school committees
- Interest in being a part of TK-8th grades learning community
- Strong organizational and collaborative skills
- Outdoor education experience
- Teaching credential preferred
