Upper School Spanish Teacher
St. Andrew’s Episcopal School seeks to hire an innovative, nurturing, and knowledgeable Upper School Spanish teacher (grades 9-12) with responsibilities to begin in August 2023. At St. Andrew's, we believe in the importance of multi-contextual relationships as foundations for learning. In addition to teaching duties, faculty members are broadly involved with school life as coaches, club and extracurricular program affiliates, or an equivalent contribution to the School. Each faculty member also serves as an advisor to several students.
Preferred candidates will be enthusiastic and passionate about teaching ninth through twelfth graders in a vigorous learning environment using student-centered pedagogy. Our instructional model emphasizes oral communication and is part of a well-articulated Spanish sequence from Kindergarten to 12th grade. We seek a colleague capable of extending that curriculum in ways that engage students in relevant, age-appropriate communicative tasks and that advance learners to the highest possible levels of Spanish proficiency. Candidates are expected to have favorable attitudes or prior knowledge of social-emotional learning, technology integration, curriculum development, differentiation, effective parent communication, and reflective practice. Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and collaborative skills are also essential. Salary will be based on experience and qualifications. Candidates who contribute to the cultural and ethnic diversity of the community are encouraged to apply.
Compelling candidates will be able to demonstrate:
- Experience with curriculum design and instruction driven by language proficiency targets.
- Orientation to an oral proficiency approach.
- Collaborative mindset and team-oriented approach.
- Training and experience at the upper school level.
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in a related field, such as Foreign Language Education.
- Native or native-like fluency.
- Exceptional writing skills in both languages.
- Knowledge of Latino/Hispanic/Pre-Colombian cultures, preferably from meaningful experiences living abroad or immersion experiences.
- Involvement in ongoing professional development for teaching and advising.
- Andrew’s teachers often contribute to the life of the school by coaching a sport or leading or assisting a club. Interest in contributing to service, athletics, arts, or other extracurricular programming is important.
