Walnut Hill School for the Arts’ Community Theater Academy (CTA) is seeking enthusiastic and talented triple-threat theater instructors with experience teaching theater, musical theater, and improvisation to start in January 2023. Knowledge of acting in film is a plus. Base qualifications include a Bachelor’s degree in education or theater or equivalent experience, and at least two years teaching experience. Candidates should have comfort working with all primary and secondary grade levels (ages 4 - 17). Classes are held Monday - Friday starting at 4 PM. Part-time schedule is flexible.
Responsibilities Include:
- Teaching theater classes (50, 110, or 170 minutes);
- Teaching Private Lessons (60 minutes);
- Preparing students for recorded or live performances;
- Teaching workshops when available;
- Aiding students with vocal requirements of assigned roles;
- Participation in outreach events;
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in education or theater or equivalent experience;
- Two years teaching experience;
- Must be reliable, professional, and open-minded;
- Demonstrated excellence when working with young performers;
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills;
- Must be willing and ready to teach in various music styles;
- Ability and willingness to adapt lessons to individual students and their needs;
- Demonstrated commitment to fostering an inclusive community;
- COVID-19 vaccination with Pfizer or Moderna booster required; and
- Ability to play piano a plus.
Physical Demands:
Physical demands include dexterity for department specific tools and equipment, and office machine and supply operation including but not limited to: writing, typing, using electronic devices, computer, phone, calculator, copy machine, fax machine, and printers. Ability and dexterity to practice and demonstrate your artistic discipline. Stooping, bending, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting, and sitting or standing for extended periods of time are common. Ability to communicate effectively and clearly through language and physical demonstration required.
