POSITION DESCRIPTION
Walker seeks an energetic and dedicated individual for a teaching position in Spanish and French for the 2023-2024 school year. The Walker World Language curriculum is based on the ACTFL Standards for Foreign Language Learning in the 21st Century and the ACTFL Proficiency Guidelines. By incorporating ACTFL's three modes of communication (interpersonal, interpretive, and presentational), the World Language Department enables students to advance along the continuum of proficiency. The teaching load is five sections along with grade-level advising. Total student contact may range from 65 to 90.
QUALIFYING CHARACTERISTICS
The ideal candidate has experience teaching across multiple levels and can deliver instruction featuring extensive input in a comprehensible manner while maintaining a low-anxiety environment. The candidate must also be open to feedback and improvement, modeling lifelong learning of practice as well as the subject area. Preference will be given to candidates interested in contributing to the full life of the school through coaching or sponsoring a major student organization. We are also interested in candidates who may be able to teach Latin.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES
- Participate in grade-level and core teams
- Conduct Advisory for 12-15 students
- Be available for students from 3:15– 3:45 every afternoon for extra work/tutorial time
- Perform required supervisory duties (i.e. lunchroom, carpool supervision, chaperoning grade-level events, etc.) as required
- Participate in parent-teacher conferences and other conferences as required
- Participate in admission-related activities (i.e. Open Houses) as needed
- Participate in the life of the school by coaching or advising extracurricular activities
CORE QUALIFICATIONS
- A Bachelor’s degree is required. A Master’s degree or advanced coursework is preferred.
- Demonstrated excellence in middle and/or upper-grade-level instruction
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with an eye for detail and clarity
- Ability and willingness to integrate technology in content delivery/skill development
- Demonstrated commitment to The Walker School’s mission and core values
