Buckley is seeking a full-time Mathematics Coordinator for Beginners (Kindergarten) through Class IV for the 2023-2024 school year, beginning July 1, 2023.
The goal of The Buckley School’s K-4 math program is to provide the best possible mathematics foundation to our Lower School students. We are committed to delivering a cutting-edge curriculum centered on research-based, innovative practices. This commitment requires ongoing, collaborative curriculum development and instruction, supported by a structure that promotes ongoing professional learning and fosters best practices. The Buckley School’s K-4 mathematics program stands out for its depth, pace, rigor, and excellent preparation for pre-algebra in middle school.
Responsibilities include:
Curriculum Leadership
- Model innovative practice across all aspects of mathematics teaching
- Lead weekly math curriculum meetings with teaching teams by grade level
- Coach individual teachers and co-teach with grade-level teams to support differentiation
- Plan and lead Lower School professional development opportunities for teachers
- Regularly engage with the broader mathematics education community to stay current with available resources and research in K-4 mathematics education
- Seek professional development opportunities that support our commitment to research-based, innovative instructional practices, and support for all math learners
Curriculum, Assessment, and Reporting
- Create, review, and maintain curriculum maps, grade level benchmarks, and assessments across grades K-4
- Meet bi-monthly with Lower School Director
- Meet with teachers prior to report cards to provide consistency around student performance across the grade.
- Meet bi-monthly with the Math Department Chair to collaborate and coordinate across the two divisions
Student Support
- Lead intervention program for students who need additional support
- Support students who are ready for further challenge
- Interview and communicate with math tutors and work with the Assistant Division Director to maintain a database of external math support providers
Parent Communication
- Organize and lead parent workshops twice a year. This includes logistics and facilitating teacher collaboration on content and presentation materials (K&1, 2&3)
- Present K-4 math program overview during the Lower School Curriculum Night - Maintain and update Buckley’s math website
Specific requirements of the position
Buckley educators are lifelong learners who are reflective about their practice and are interested in working in an innovative, rigorous, and diverse learning environment.
- A master’s degree in Mathematics, Math Education, or a related subject, and at least three years of successful experience as a math administrator and Lower School math teacher are preferred, but alternate pathways into the profession will be considered.
- Familiarity with Singapore mathematics and Math in the City is preferable
