Duke School, located in Durham, N.C., offers an exceptional project-based learning environment in which it seeks to develop high levels of analytical and critical thinking skills among all of its students. This engaging process is fully integrated with explicit instruction in the workshop based academic disciplines of reading, language arts, mathematics, science, social sciences, and world languages. This engaging, unique, yet rigorous approach to educating K-8th students is implemented by a collaborative team of two teachers in each classroom at every grade level.
The program is further enriched by additional opportunities in Spanish, the fine arts, and physical education. The lower school at DS is comprised of a preschool for 3-4 year olds, kindergarten, and grades 1-4, with each grade enrolling approximately 45 students. The majority of students are drawn from the communities of Durham and Chapel Hill. Compensation and benefits are competitive with the local public school system.
