Dawson, a K-12 independent school of 535 students located east of Boulder on a beautiful 112-acre campus, seeks a full-time Innovation and Technology Specialist for the 2023-24 school year. Dawson is a growing and passionate educational community dedicated to the healthy development and education of all of its students.
The Middle School Innovation and Technology Specialist designs and teaches Innovation and Technology courses in the Middle School and is an essential member of the Innovation and Technology team supporting both faculty and students in their use of technology. This person is a key member of the Middle School faculty and is responsible for enhancing learning through the innovative use of technology throughout the entire division.
The ideal candidate enjoys working with high energy and creative middle school students in a dynamic learning environment. Professional and Personal Qualifications
- 3+ years of teaching experience, preferred
- Bachelor’s Degree and/or Master’s Degree in Educational Technology or a related field to provide innovation and technology support to faculty and students, preferred
- Familiarity with methods for integrating technology across the curriculum
- Experience with effective teaching strategies for teaching technology including software and hardware skills
- Experience teaching with a wide variety of the following technology tools is a plus:
- Productivity tools in Google Workspaces (Docs, Sheets, Slides, Drive) and the use of learning management systems
- Coding platforms appropriate for middle school students include block-based coding with tools such as Makecode and Scratch, scripting languages such as Javascript and Python, and markup tools including HTML and CSS to edit and design webpages.
- Makerspace tools including electronics prototyping kits (such as Micro:bit), laser cutters, and 3d modeling / printing
- Graphic design tools including Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop
- Video editing tools such as iMovie and Adobe Premiere
- Robotics platforms such as Lego Mindstorms and Spike, Sphero, and Vex
- Demonstrates interest in life long learning in regards to emerging technologies and a desire to pursue ongoing professional development opportunities
Responsibilities
- Teaches all sections of 6th grade innovation and technology classes (each class lasts for a quarter of the year) with a focus on foundational technology skills, coding, engineering and design, robotics, and digital media
- Teaches two 7th and 8th grade innovation and technology elective courses each semester. Currently those courses include Foundations of Coding and Maker Workshop.
- Works closely with the other members of the Innovation and Technology Department to help implement new technologies and projects throughout the school
- Works with faculty to incorporate innovation and technology skills into their curriculum developing communication, collaboration, creativity and problem solving skills
- Serves as a liaison between faculty and the Innovation and Technology team, responding to IT tickets and supporting teachers with their technology needs
- Develops and delivers technology professional development for faculty and staff
