Principia is growing! We are seeking a mathematics teacher for sixth, seventh and eighth graders who uses a variety of teaching methods to meet students’ needs and mentors students as their teacher and character educator. Full-time, school-year position starting 2023-24 school year.
Work Performed: Essential Duties*
- Teach 6th, 7th, and 8th grade classes, including daily lesson planning, regular pretesting, and backwards design of units (utilizes the Understanding by Design curriculum framework).
- Differentiate for multiple levels within each class (mixed-ability classrooms).
- Communicate with the Learning Engagement Center about students and push-in and pull-out services.
- Serve as a resource for Lower School teachers in their curriculum design and instruction.
- Help organize the administration of standardized testing and analyze the data for trends. Make decisions about instruction and specific student intervention in response to the data.
- Assess students on their math understanding and skills using rubrics and a proficiency scale.
- Follow the Math in Focus curriculum with pacing and student engagement in mind, as well as supplement the eighth grade curriculum with Algebra 1 Common Core standards.
- Meet and communicate with students and parents regarding student growth in math.
- Participate in weekly faculty meetings about student growth in academics and character.
- Assess students in their approaches to learning.
- Create and edit unit plans for each unit of study.
- Participate in yearly goal-setting and frequent one-on-one meetings with supervisor.
- Reflect on teaching and learning regularly and improve practice.
- Complete the required portfolio, including walkthroughs, school visits, reflections, and goal-setting.
- Attend conferences (could include Math in Focus, National Council of Teachers of Mathematics).
- Participate in and contribute to weekly and yearly professional development sessions.
- Communicate timely and effectively with students, parents, and administration.
- Engage in professional learning experiences that support school initiatives.
- Actively collaborates with colleagues across levels and departments to support the implementation of school-wide initiatives.
- Actively participates in various committee meetings, faculty and parent meetings, and professional development.
- Supports Middle School activities by chaperoning social events and trips.

Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree required in Math or related field, Master’s degree preferred.
- Teaching certification preferred (required within two years of hire date).
- Relevant teaching experience with middle school students.
