Job Description:
St. Mary’s Academy is seeking an engaging and dynamic teacher that is qualified to lead the General Music program. This is a full-time position. Candidates should have experience in developing and implementing purposeful instruction that leads to musically literate and globally mindful students. Our music educators focus on the Colorado Music Standards of expression, creativity, comprehension and evaluation as they encourage joyful participation. It is vital that candidates exhibit how they create and foster a love of music in students while teaching the foundational skills of rhythm, notation, harmony, style and interpretation.
Successful candidates will model the Loretto Values of Faith, Community, Justice and Respect in their classroom, and encourage our students to use music as a tool for communicating and expressing these values. St. Mary's Academy expects excellence from all students but fosters growth through adversity, particularly through exploration of foundational music skills, basic instrumental techniques and vocal development. St. Mary's advocates for the work of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in the classroom, particularly in the music classroom to expose and perform music of various genres, styles and cultures.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
- Teach general music to Preschool - 4th grade students
- Create a positive classroom culture by incorporating a student-centered and inclusive pedagogy utilizing effective classroom management.
- Be willing to collaborate with colleagues to develop cross-curricular learning experiences, and with performing arts staff in developing co-curricular or extra-curricular performances.
- Prepare and deliver lesson plans and instructional materials that will facilitate active learning within all levels of experience and age groups.
- Teach music theory and history as developmentally appropriate for each age group.
- Motivate pupils and encourage the progress of each individual student through written evaluation as well as daily authentic assessments.
- Maintain care for school-owned facilities, music, musical instruments, and equipment.
- Perform other supervisory duties as required of all Lower School teachers, such as recess, lunch, or morning/afternoon pick-up and/or drop-off.
- Communicate effectively with St. Mary’s Academy staff, students, and parents.
