Compensation and Benefits
The position is for the academic year starting August 2023. A salary commensurate with experience, degree attainment, and qualifications is paid to employees annually. Full-time employees are eligible for our benefits package, including medical, dental, vision, disability, tuition remission, professional development/education funds, and the ability to participate in the school’s 403(b) retirement program.

Position Description and Requirements
St. Johns Country Day School, an independent college preparatory school, is seeking an experienced academic leader to fill the role of a full-time teacher. The teacher will be part of a five-person team and teach in the 4th and 5th Grade Academy. The Academy is a two-year preparation to bridge the Lower and Middle School divisions. The position is under the direction of the Head of Lower School. The teacher, along with each child’s parent, is responsible for the academic, social-emotional growth, and development of students in their care. The teacher plans and implements an instructional program that encourages students to develop intrinsic motivation, take initiative, and fulfill their academic potential. The teacher is responsible for assuring compliance with all St. Johns standards and policies. Qualified applicants will value strong relationships with students and colleagues.
Essential Practices
The teacher is expected to perform and exhibit the following practices professionally and in a timely manner. The following list is not all-encompassing.
- Coaching, training, and collaborating with Lower School faculty on writing/grammar opportunities, as well as identifying key professional development experiences in writing/grammar.
- Be a reflective practitioner, positive role model, and team player.
- Encourage and provide opportunities for students to be self-advocates and independent learners.
- Educating parents on current methodologies and approaches in mathematics
- Assessing student needs and performance in order to properly tailor instructional methods.
- Use applicable technology to support and differentiate instruction.
- Maintain accurate and complete records of students' progress and development.
- Manage student behavior in the classroom by establishing and enforcing rules and procedures.
- Prepare required reports on students and activities.
- Participate in department, school, and parent meetings.
- Complete all reasonable requests made by the Head of Lower School
The position requires a degree in Elementary Education, with 3-5 years of teaching experience, as well as coursework and professional development in writing/grammar instruction. A Master’s degree in writing/grammar or related field is preferred.
