The Kinkaid School is seeking a dynamic, innovative Learning Specialist to join its Upper School team starting August 2023. The ideal candidate will have experience serving as a learning specialist and will have proven success assisting students with identifying and implementing effective study strategies, organizational skills, resulting in self-advocacy and overall increased achievement. This position will require regular collaboration with the Deans’ Office and other departments.
The Kinkaid School is a co-educational non-sectarian day school enrolling over 1,400 students in pre-kindergarten through twelfth grade. Located on a sixty-five-acre campus in the heart of Houston, Texas, the School offers a thriving intellectual community in the midst of a vibrant, urban, diverse culture. With an enrollment of about 620, the Upper School fosters a learning environment centered on academic excellence, intellectual curiosity, and personal attention. The Upper School faculty enjoys small class sizes and a collegial, collaborative environment centered on intellectual curiosity and continuous professional development.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

Collaborate with psychologist and learning specialist to develop plans to address individual learning styles

Collaborate with teachers and families to develop plans for both school and home

Work closely with the lead Learning Specialist to meet the varying needs of a diverse group of learners and communicate those plans to faculty

Serve as an advisor to ten to fifteen Upper School students

Teach academic skills, primarily to 9th and 10th graders, to increase student success in their classes

Support the School, its mission, strategic initiatives (including DEI work), and its leadership
-
Engagement in the school community by attending athletic and art events
-
Additional responsibilities such as coaching a sport or sponsoring a club and participating in Interim Term during the month of January

Qualifications

Bachelor’s and Master's degrees in related fields

Certifications/licenses in the field

Core knowledge about the development of upper school age children

Passion for and experience with educational technology

Strong communication skills (written and verbal)

Eagerness to grow professionally and remain current within the field
