York Country Day School seeks a dynamic and dedicated substitute teacher to provide long-term coverage during the 2022-2023 school year. The anticipated term of service is approximately two months.
The teacher will teach courses in 8th grade Earth & Space Science, 10th grade Algebra II, and 11th grade Physics. The ideal candidate will connect well with students in each age group. Interested candidates should have expertise in 21st Century learning within the classroom and knowledge with STEAM learning experiences for students. The teacher will be called upon to cover the duties assigned to the absent teacher as well, including a 9th grade advisory and study halls.
The ideal candidate will be able to teach Middle/Upper School Science and Math, including force, motion, gravity, velocity, graphing various equations, and conducting classroom labs in science units. In addition, the candidate should be able to foster critical thinking skills, engage students in classroom discussions, and promote active, student-centered learning. The ideal candidate should possess at minimum an undergraduate degree in Education, Math, Science, or a related field. Candidates should have teaching experience and be an excellent communicator and collaborator. Candidates must have the capacity to deliver instruction both in-person and on a remote learning platform as needed. Previous teaching in an independent school setting is desired.
