Wildwood School is currently seeking a dynamic educator who is interested in and responsive to an evolving and innovative educational environment. Wildwood teachers are active participants in the life of the school and are encouraged to be lifelong learners in their craft.
Wildwood School seeks an experienced and innovative educator to join our middle school program and educational technology department as a Computer Science teacher. Our current opening is for a full-time teacher (5 sections) covering sections in 6th through 8th grade.
The successful candidate will have teaching experience at the secondary level as well as experience working with collaborative teams. Specific courses may be flexible and may also change from year to year based on the department’s needs and teachers’ strengths and interests.
Core duties of Wildwood teachers include:
- Collaborating with colleagues to design instructional materials, projects, and assessments
- Differentiating instruction to meet the needs of a range of learners
- Assessing student mastery of course standards
- Utilizing a variety of assessment methods to inform instruction
- Providing comprehensive feedback in narratives form twice a year
- Communicating proactively and consistently with students and families regarding student growth and development
Wildwood teachers are active participants in the life of the school beyond their classrooms. Additional responsibilities of Wildwood teachers include:
- Serve as an advisor, executing Wildwood’s advisory curriculum with an emphasis on social-emotional learning, multicultural skills building, and academic oversight
- Contribute to the work of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging
- Contribute to the work of school committees, task forces, the Admissions Office
- Attend outdoor education trips and student events throughout the year
- Provide supervision for lunch, recess, and passing periods
Summary of Major Responsibilities
- Teach up to five sections of Computer Science courses; while primarily a Middle School position, some Upper School work is possible.
- Monitor and evaluate students’ progress and communicate with parents and Division teams regarding student progress.
- Exhibit knowledge of current trends, pedagogy, research, and topics of importance in computer science pedagogy by applying it in the classroom and sharing it with teachers on a departmental and school-wide basis.
- Participate in regular, purposeful pedagogy meetings and professional development sessions.
- Participate actively in the life of the school through attendance at events, committee membership, and leadership of extracurricular activities.
- Perform other duties within the scope, spirit, and purpose of the job, as requested by the divisional directors.
- Collaborate with elementary and middle/upper Educational Technology Coaches and Director and to help support technology integration and technology curriculum development.
Ideal candidates have:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in computer science or a related field
- Training, demonstrated professional development, or certification in teaching and learning
- Experience teaching and leading others in technology, including working with middle school-aged students
- A pulse on current trends, pedagogy, research, and topics of importance in computer science education and be willing to apply it in the classroom and share
with other teachers
- Excellent technology skills and some experience integrating technology into the curriculum
- Demonstrated commitment to anti-bias education and diversity, equity, and inclusion work
