POSITION SCOPE:  The Custodian will work in coordination with the Facilities Coordinator and Facilities Specialist to maintain cleanliness and safety of classrooms and offices, eating areas, restrooms and other related areas of the campus.  He/She is an important part of the team responsible for the safety of the campus and employees.

 The ideal candidate will:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

• • Dust and polish furniture and woodwork; polish metal fixtures.
  • Empty and clean waste receptacles; pick up paper; pick up trash containers and empty into large bins.
  • Clean and disinfect restrooms including floors, walls, fixtures, appliances and mirrors; clean and sanitize toilets, urinals, sinks and drinking fountains; restock supplies including toilet paper, paper towels and soap dispensers.
  • Move furniture and equipment; set up and break down equipment including and rooms for special events, meetings, lectures and other events
  • Perform minor repairs to buildings and fixtures; replace fluorescent light tubes; clean and adjust shades and blinds; assist others in making repairs as required.
  • Maintain areas around buildings by picking up trash, sweeping sidewalks, raking leaves and maintaining entry ways.
  • Clean and disinfect classrooms and common areas when they are available during the day
• Observe and report safety issues, hazards and needed repairs to the Facilities Coordinator
• Assist with carpool, lunch, and recess duties.

Special Environmental Conditions:

The duties of this position require the use of cleaning chemicals that may be potentially hazardous; moderate physical effort in moving and/or assembling heavy items, working outside as directed and using equipment approved and available to accomplish the work.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND EDUCATION:

• High school diploma
• 3-5 years of custodial or equivalent experience
• Prepared to execute duties and responsibilities in a safe and timely matter
• Ability to work a flexible schedule including nights and weekends
• Must be reliable and professional

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Standing and walking for extended periods
• Ability to squat, bend, and reach safely
• Lifting up to 40 pounds
• Ability to work outside with no temperature control
