Vermont Academy is nestled on four hundred fifty acres at the foothills of the Green Mountains in Saxtons River, Vermont, and has provided a supportive community and close personal attention to its students for 146 years. We seek a Spanish teacher who will support the growth of today’s students. The top priority is to provide a safe and supportive environment for students to create and grow. The ideal candidate is passionate about teaching Spanish and able to teach multiple levels. Teaching with an immersion-style approach, the teachers in the department aim for appropriate levels of proficiency each year by using multiple and varied media and activities to engage students in the process of learning another language. The World Language department is committed to teaching another language and culture so that students can become more culturally competent and more aware of issues related to social justice. Proficiency in additional languages further enhances a candidate's profile. Salary is based on degrees, experience, and the contributions the candidate makes to the school.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Teach four to five sections of Spanish
- Live in, or serve as an affiliate to one of the Academy’s dormitories
- Coach or supervise an activity during two seasons, with priority given to those with experience with basketball, hockey, nordic, and/or soccer
- Serve as an academic advisor
- Monthly weekend duty
