SUMMARY
The Upper School science program requires all students to complete Physics in 9th grade, Chemistry in 10th grade and Biology in 11th grade with the opportunity for more advanced and AP science courses. For this position, the school seeks an outstanding Science Educator with expertise teaching one or several of the core sciences of Physics, Chemistry, and Biology.
This is a full-time, 10-month, exempt position. Some evening and weekend work is required.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Teach introductory and upper-level courses in Physics, Chemistry, or Biology, as well as advanced topics from your area of expertise.
- Provide students with a high-quality learning experience using progressive teaching methods including competency-based education and project- and inquiry- based instruction
- Leverage the facilities and resources afforded by our new state-of-the-art Science and Innovation Center to be completed Fall 2023
- Mentor student research and capstone projects
- Provide leadership developing the new Science and Innovation program.
- Vary instructional techniques and learning opportunities to accommodate a variety of learning styles.
- Mentor twelve to fourteen students as part of a comprehensive grade level Advisory team.
- Partner with the student, family, administration and the Academic Resource Center to support students with learning differences or those experiencing challenges.
- Organize and curate on-line classroom material for effective in-class instruction.
Qualifications and Education Requirements:
- Have an MS or PhD in Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Engineering, or related fields
- Interdisciplinary training and experience teaching in various areas of science
- Demonstrated ability to teach and develop additional science courses including electives and advanced courses
- Experience directing student-driven research, inquiry and capstone projects
- Have at least three years of experience in an independent school environment teaching Upper School science.
