SUMMARY
Fourth grade homeroom teacher and literacy teacher, teaching two sections of 4th grade students for 90 minutes each every day. This is a full time, 12, month, exempt position. Typical school hours: 7:30 am – 4:00 pm. Some evening and weekend work is required.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Responsible for a homeroom of 17 students in a departmentalized grade level;
- Teach literacy to two homeroom sections;
- Participate in assigned lunch, recess and duty after school carpool duties;
- Write progress reports on all students three times per year; lead scheduled parent teacher; conferences four times per year;
- Collaborate within a team of five homeroom teachers as well as within a team of three literacy teachers;
- Attend divisional and departmental meetings, participate in professional development activities, observe/be observed by colleagues/administration and give/receive feedback;
- Attend and chaperone annual three-day overnight trip with fourth grade students to off campus location in May.
Qualifications and Education Requirements:
- Possess the knowledge or experience needed to design developmentally appropriate lessons for students in fourth grade;
- Possess background knowledge in the developmental characteristics of elementary school aged children;
- Possess background knowledge in implementing a balanced literacy approach; experience with guided reading groups and one-on-one conferring is preferred;
- Have the ability to support students in their development of key habits of successful learners;
- Collaborate with other members of the Fourth Grade and Lower School teams to discuss and share recent research and national standards that have proven to lead to effective learning;
- Have 3-5 years of prior teaching experience with elementary students;
- Have excellent communication skills (both writing and speaking) and a highly refined work ethic;
- Minimum of Bachelor’s degree required, specialization in Education preferred.
