Porter-Gaud School is an Episcopal, independent, coeducational day school with 1,650 students in preschool through grade 12. The School is seeking a full-time Middle School Science Teacher beginning with the 2023- 24 school year. Our Middle School division is comprised of grades 5 through 8.
Responsibilities:
This position will involve teaching classes of up to two grade levels of Middle School Science, potentially including Earth Systems Science and Environmental & Physical Science, with the incorporation of technology and engineering as appropriate to meet STEM and NGSS goals. Additional responsibilities will include serving as advisor to a small group of students and participation in various Middle School activities such as committees, grade level & division level meetings, clubs and organizations. The Middle School Science Teacher will participate as an active team member within the Science Department, the Middle School faculty, and the school community as a whole, while inspiring a love of and appreciation for laboratory science in our students.
Reporting: The Middle School Science Teacher will report directly to the Head of Middle School and take direction from the Science Department Chair.
Salary: Commensurate with experience.

Qualifications:
- A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, preferably with a degree or certification in science or science education.
- Proficiency in the use of technology in the classroom.
- A well-developed knowledge of classroom safety and preparation requirements for laboratory set-ups.
- Previous teaching experience.
- Previous experience working with Middle School aged children is a plus.
- Knowledge of and desire to teach progressive pedagogical methods.
- Willingness to support diversity and inclusion efforts at the school. The Middle School Science Teacher will display a continuous commitment to developing the attitudes, knowledge, and skills (intercultural competence) to engage in appropriate and effective communication with students, colleagues, and families from diverse backgrounds and perspectives.
