Midtown International School seeks candidates for an American Sign Language (ASL) Instructor for our World Language Department. The position will start in August of 2023. The ideal candidate will hold a Bachelor’s Degree in ASL or a Bachelor's Degree in Education with evidence of ASL fluency.
American Sign Language instruction at Midtown International School has the potential to be offered from kindergarten through twelfth grade. Language classes in grades k-5 meet one to two times a week and provide narrative assessment data and feedback (rather than numerical grades). Language instruction at the middle and high school levels are academic classes with numerical-based assessments and grades.
The position could be part-time or full-time based on the ideal candidate's availability and student enrollment.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
*Instructional design and implementation; candidate demonstrates the ability to differentiate instruction for diverse student needs without relying on worksheets and secondary texts. There will likely be a variety of skill and proficiency levels within each class.
*Maintains organized, well-planned, and thoroughly researched lesson plans that reach all learners. Clearly plans for and implements projects, problem-based learning opportunities, and instructional technology, and incorporates resources from a variety of viewpoints and experts.
*Assesses students with appropriate measures, including performance assessments, process assessments, narratives, and rubrics.
*Maintains a safe, secure, interactive, respectful, and healthy educational environment; follows, establishes, and enforces school standards and procedures and complies with legal requirements.
*Interacts positively with parents, students, other faculty, resource staff, and partners in education while establishing consistent and ongoing communication processes.
*Fosters a collaborative environment in all aspects of the day-to-day operations of the school.
*Participates fully in professional development opportunities, meetings, school events, and conferences.
*Demonstrates the value of lifelong learning by reading professional publications and engaging in continuing and professional educational experiences and being open to implementing new strategies and feedback into one's professional practice.

Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in ASL or a Bachelor's Degree in Education with evidence of ASL fluency.
- Experience working with primary and secondary-aged children.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's Degree
- Gifted education experience or certification
