Heschel Day School, an independent community Jewish day school, serving approximately 360 students in grades Transitional Kindergarten through 8th grade, is seeking a Senior Accountant to oversee and coordinate the school's Student Billing and Tuition Assistance Program.
The Senior Accountant is a member of the Business Office Team and reports directly to the Chief Finance Officer.
Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Student Tuition Billing: Accounts Receivable Administration
- Perform general accounting functions
- Prepare check, EFT, cash and credit card deposits.
- Generate all charges, credits, and adjustments to student accounts.
- Post payments to student accounts.
- Review and monthly FACTS reports.
- Track and collect past due receivables.
- Phone calls, correspondence, and meetings with parents.
- Tuition Assistance
- Coordinate, maintain and track financial aid requests, applications forms, and related documents.
- Member of financial aid committee to review applications and allocate tuition assistance.
- Prepare enrollment contract addenda for tuition assistance awards.
III. Other Responsibilities
- Other accounting-related tasks and projects, as assigned, in order to meet the school's financial objectives.
- Assist in month-end closing processes, including: preparation of journal entries, reconciliations, account analysis and financial statements and preparation of audit worksheets.
- Weekly/monthly/ad hoc reports for management
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in accounting;
- 5 years’ experience in a professional accounting environment;
- Knowledge and experience with fund accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable;
- Respectful of the Jewish culture and community
- Experience with organizational audits
Skills:
- Excellent writing, communication, time management, organizational, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work as a positive, enthusiastic member of a team
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
- Advanced Microsoft Excel experience (pivot tables and VLookup)
- Excellent US GAAP Knowledge
Compensation and Benefits:
Compensation: $75,000 to $90,000
