The Hebron Academy Fellowship in Independent School Life is an excellent opportunity for those seeking experience living, learning, and working at a college-prep residential school with a collaborative and supportive community for the 2023-2024 school year with a start date in August 2023. Our program will provide broad and varied experiences and development of skills for the fellow in the many areas of running a boarding school from academics to administration. This integrated program is ideal for early-career professionals who are interested in learning more about working in the field of independent school education.

Who are you?

You are an enthusiastic and passionate person who is curious about the broad-ranging career opportunities at a college-prep boarding school including admissions, advancement, communications and marketing, teaching, coaching, and residential life. You enjoy working with adolescents and supporting their growth and development in a holistic, residential education environment committed to supporting the whole child.

You are excited to contribute to a culture of awareness, understanding, and respect for all individuals and groups, with the ability to communicate in a culturally responsive manner. You seek a deeply relational and intentionally small community where you will be encouraged and supported to bring your full self to all aspects of your work.

What would you do?

As a Hebron Fellow, you would live at the school with housing provided. You would receive exposure to living and working at a residential school, as well as support and mentorship from seasoned faculty in the many areas of residential school life while:

• assisting in residential life as dormitory faculty,
• assisting in an after-school sport or activity for one or two seasons,
• teaching or co-teaching one or two classes with a teacher leader,
• and participating in special projects to learn about other departments in a residential school including Admissions, Student Life, Advancement, Marketing and Communications, and integral work related to social and emotional learning (SEL) and diversity, equity, inclusion, justice, and belonging (DEIJB).

Rooted in Maine, we cultivate trailblazers and we are grounded in our purpose-driven approach as an independent boarding and day school serving students in grades 6 -12 and a postgraduate year. Learning is anchored in topics that are relevant -- to students and the world -- and we create space for students to drive their own learning with their own questions. Most importantly, we know real learning and belonging can only happen when all students are seen, valued, and engaged.
