Position Statement
Director of Admissions and Enrollment Management at Friends Seminary in New York City. As the oldest continuously operated coeducational day school in New York City, Friends Seminary, serving students in Kindergarten through Grade 12, adheres to the Quaker values of “silence, study, and service.” Since 1786, it has been preparing young people for life-long learning and community engagement, all for the betterment of the world. It is a place of extraordinary academic excellence and character building: intentionality could serve as its middle name.
Friends Seminary, under the strong leadership of Bo Lauder who has been Head of the School since 2002, is a leading school in the New York City constellation of stellar, independent schools. Effective July 1, 2023, the new Director of Admissions and Enrollment will be responsible for meeting all admissions goals for a school of currently 794 students and will be the face of the school in ambassadorship and outreach. This position reports directly to the Head of the School and works in close collaboration with all constituencies, outward and inward facing. To learn more about this exciting position, please read the Position Statement.
The School benefits from an urban campus in the Gramercy Park/East Village of Manhattan that has been largely renovated or purpose-built over the last 20 years. Friends Seminary, too, has gone through remarkable construction and restoration. Classrooms, hallways, gathering spaces, courtyards and gyms grace the school and speak to the power of community and space. The School has over 1,000 applications yearly and welcomes, on average, 125 new students yearly. As stated in the Mission Statement, Friends Seminary is a “community that cultivates the practices of keen observation, unhurried reflection, critical thinking, and coherent expression.” To learn more about this storied institution, please check out the School’s website. This search will be moving quickly, and, if interested, you should apply with expediency. You may apply through the portal on the RG175 website. We require a letter of interest, a C.V. or resume, and a writing sample of the candidate’s own choosing.
